Ecologically committed campsite in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez
Responsible travel in Vendée
At the Ushuaïa Villages La Conge campsite in Saint Hilaire de Riez, for several years now, we’ve been making our guests aware of the impact of their habits on the environment, and encouraging them to adopt eco-citizen behavior in their everyday lives during their vacations.

Ecological landscaping in Vendée
The campsite is located in a natural pine forest, which we consider important to preserve for the well-being of the flora and fauna. We take great care to keep our pine forest intact, and make sure that no trees are cut down. We love to hear the birds sing and watch the squirrels (if we’re lucky).
When we prune our trees, we shred the dead branches and old pine cones that have fallen to the ground after a gale, for example, to make a good natural mulch that we put back into our flower beds! Pine cones can also be used to make natural decorations here and there.
We also use the branches from our annual pruning and tree trunks for natural decoration at the campsite and to mark out our pitches. This year, for example, we are giving a second life to pruned poplar branches, thanks to our local community garden, to make fences, vegetable garden borders, etc.
We try not to throw away, we recycle!
Our commitment to protecting the environment and our eco-sustainable actions
Selective sorting
Because it’s everyone’s business, here at the campsite we’ve been applying selective sorting for several years now, and we make our customers aware of the importance of sorting waste:
- yellow garbage can for packaging to be recycled
- paper column for newspapers and magazines: at the office, we don’t hesitate to reuse all paper documents (advertising or printed documents on one side) to use as sheets or post-it notes!
- glass column for glass only
- green garbage can for household waste
And we also have a box for used batteries at the campsite reception!
Since 2019, a composter has been set up to collect fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds and so on.

Sustainable water management
At the campsite, we also make our customers aware of the importance of good water management, because water is a precious and limited resource! And in partnership with Vendée Eau, we use posters, games and other means of communication to remind people of the right ways to save water.
We’ve installed a rainwater collector to supply our vegetable patches.
But how can you reduce your water management?
- If I see a leak, I report it to the person in charge
- No more than 4 minutes in the shower
- I use a basin to wash dishes
- Don’t shower before going to the beach
- Filling the washing machine before running it
- I turn off the water when I brush my teeth
Reducing carbon footprint
We encourage people to get around on foot or by bike, whether it’s to go to the beach, to do the shopping, or simply to enjoy a stroll – and it’s good for your health! The Vélodyssée cycle path passes right in front of the campsite! Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez is a town with a wealth of cycle paths between the dunes, the sea and the forest! Are you tempted?
Biodiversity at the campsite
At the campsite, we’ve installed insect hotels and nesting boxes for the well-being and protection of the little animals around us!
